Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee spoke on the House floor today, demanding Rick Perry to turn down a Texas license plate requested by the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
The plate, which includes an image of the Confederate flag, currently needs approval by the Texas DMV board before it can be issued.

“In 2011, it would be a disgrace, it would be outrageous to lift the Confederacy on a license plate in the state of Texas.” Jackson Lee stated before highlighting the evils of slavery in America.
“I beg you, Mr. Perry, tonight, to speak to your higher angels and talk about bringing us together,” Jackson Lee added, “Do not issue a Confederate license plate in the state of Texas, for God’s sake, and God bless America.”
This is the second time that a member of the Congressional Black Caucus has brought racial issues relating to Rick Perry to the House floor.
Earlier this month, Jesse Jackson Jr. gave a fiery speech on the House floor calling for Perry to publicly apologize for hunting at a place called ni**erhead.
