President Obama’s job approval rating fell to the lowest level Gallup has ever measured it today at 38%. Obama previously hit 39% twice the week of August 8th – 15th.
At this point in his presidency, Jimmy Carter had a 32% approval rating, but would rise to 58% in January 1980, before falling to 37% on Election Day. In August of 1983, Reagan had a 43% approval rating, which rose steadily to 58% by Election Day 1984.
Gallup’s daily tracking poll uses a three-day rolling sample of 1,500 national adults, so today’s results would include polling from Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights.
