With Vice President Joe Biden expected to lead at least three bipartisan deficit-reduction talks this week, the Congressional Budget Office is scheduled to release its updated Long-Term Budget Outlook on Wednesday morning. CBO chairman Doug Elmendorf is scheduled to appear the following day before the House Budget Committee, chaired by Rep. Paul Ryan. Meanwhile, the House Energy and Commerce Committee will be holding several hearings on Medicare, while the House Ways and Means Committee will be conducting hearings on the finances of both Medicare and Social Security. On another front, the House Oversight Committee will be probing the bailout of General Motors.
