After shots were reportedly fired at the Capitol building, the chair of the House of Representatives interrupted a member who was speaking and called a recess.
“If the gentleman would suspend, pursuant to clause 12-a of rule one, the House will stay in recess subject to the call of the chair,” the chair announced before striking the gavel.
