Perry missing the moment so far

Rick Perry played it safe for the first half of the debate, saving his attack on Romneycare for the segment where the candidates themselves questioned each other. Perry thought about interrupting Romney’s answer, but Romney deflected it.

He did not criticize Mitt Romney or Herman Cain for their previous support of TARP, which was a golden opportunity for him to contrast his candidacy with the top of the field.

Perry stuck with his talking point about tapping the “treasure trove” of American energy when asked about his economic plan and continued talking about his record in the State of Texas.

Prior to the debate, analysts said that this was Perry’s make or break moment, but he might just try to sit back while Cain and Romney take the shots.
