According to the National Review, a senior staff member on the Herman Cain campaign indicates that Cain is “reassessing” his future in his presidential campaign. A final decision is expected in the next several days.

This news breaks after a woman admitted yesterday to an affair with Cain for about 13 years prior to his presidential campaign.

UPDATE: The Associated Press confirms the report, although it is unclear which way Cain is leaning.

One participant on the call, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the conversation, said that as part of that assessment, Cain’s campaign is examining the impact of the newest allegations. This person described the tone as positive but also said there was some uncertainty coming from Cain.

UPDATE II:

Alex Pappas gets an official response from Cain campaign spokesman J.D. Gordon.

“It’s a reassessment of where we stand and the road ahead, similar to other times in the campaign’s history.”

In a transcript of the call posted by National Review, Cain confirmed that he will speak at Hillsdale College this evening to deliver a speech, “with vim, vigor, and enthusiasm.”
