When Super Typhoon Haiyan struck in the Philippines, CNN sent camera crews to cover the destruction.
They also used a drone.
A report aired on Monday featured drone footage from the Philippines as CNN’s Karl Penhaul was filmed talking about the wreckage from a drone camera.
“[I]t is only if you take a video camera into the air that you can begin to get a handle on the true dimension of this disaster,” Penhaul reported on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday as the drone’s engine buzzed in the background.
CNN has also used a drone to film the aftermath of a storm in the United States.
A new CNN video released on YouTube on Thursday features drone footage covering the aftermath of a tornado that hit Washington, Illinois.
