Former White House aides threaten democracy by Obama’s definition

As part of his last-ditch effort to avert disaster in the midterm elections, President Obama spent the closing weeks of last fall’s campaign attacking outside groups that receive undisclosed donations, declaring them “not just a threat to Democrats, that’s a threat to our democracy.” Today, two former White House aids opened that very type of group to aid Democrats.

The group, Priorities USA, has been founded by Bill Burton, who served as deputy secretary, and Sean Sweeney, who worked as Rahm Emanuel’s chief of staff when Emanuel was working in the White House.

“We don’t control outside groups,” White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters today, Jake Tapper reports.
