The U.S. Senate on Wednesday shot down a motion to move forward on Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget plan, by a vote of 40 to 57.
All Democrats voted against the proposal, and they were joined by five Republicans: Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine, Scott Brown, R-Mass., Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Rand Paul, R- Ky. Paul voted against it because it didn’t go far enough.
Overall, not a bad showing for the Ryan budget. The defections of a handful of Republicans was inevitable but the caucus largely stuck together.
