Gee, we’re not that rich . . . .

Psephologist Jay Cost’s Morning Jay blog at weeklystandard.com is required reading these days. This morning he highlights six incumbent Democratic congressmen who have called for extending the Bush tax cuts on high earners. What do they have in common? Well, five out of the six represent some of the highest income suburbs in the United States. To wit:

Jim Himes CT 4 Greenwich CT

Ron Klein FL 22 Palm Beach FL

Gerry Connolly VA 11 Reston VA

Gary Peters MI 9 Bloomfield Hills MI

Harry Mitchell AZ 5 Scottsdale AZ

The exception is Bobby Bright of AL 2, though his district does include what high income suburbs there are of Montgomery AL.

The 2008 exit poll showed Barack Obama carrying voters with incomes over $200,000. As Victor Davis Hanson notes,

“Does all of Obama’s us/them talk about the apparently greedy who make over $250,000 a year bother any of his rather affluent blue-county supporters? Given that so many of the progressive pundits, professors, and professionals that supported Obama make over $200-250K, at some point his arbitrary economic Mason-Dixon line — dividing the bad 1 percent that pays 40 percent of income taxes from the good 40 percent who pay nothing — gets too close to home.”

Do Himes, Klein, Connolly, Peters and Mitchell—all first elected in 2006 or 2008—read Hanson?
