Gingrich denounced the Commission on Presidential Debates in Florida today, suggesting that an “outside group” shouldn’t be in charge of “deciding the terms of the debate.”
Recalling the contraception question from an earlier debate, Gingrich said, “I think we need to break loose from the news media, we need to assert that the people who run for president are adults.” Gingrich said, adding that he would still “tolerate” the numerous Republican primary debates.

“In the general election as a presidential candidate, the president and I should be able to design our own debates, about the topics we think matter.” Gingrich said, insisting that they should be able to talk to the American people, without “reporters playing gotcha,” or having rules about 60 second answers to important questions.
“This is not the way to run a great country,” Gingrich said. “We have the capacity on the internet, we have the capacity on cable television, we have the ability to have a genuine adult conversation and thats what we should do this fall.” Gingrich concluded.
The Commission on Presidential Debates was established in 1987 as a bi-partisan non-profit group for the purpose of ensuring the quality and fairness of presidential debates.
