In another sign that the Republican establishment in Washington is moving toward acceptance of newly-elected Delaware GOP senate candidate Christine O’Donnell, officials at the National Republican Senatorial Committee say they want to meet with O’Donnell soon to offer help in the campaign.
“Sen. Cornyn and our staff are hoping to meet with her and her campaign within the next week to discuss how we can be helpful,” says an NRSC source. “We want to sit down with her and say, ‘What can we do to help?'”

Less than 48 hours after a number of national Republicans were openly despairing over O’Donnell’s primary victory, there are now denials of any divisions. Sources point out that the NRSC is running ads for tea party candidates Rand Paul in Kentucky and Ken Buck in Colorado, and the NRSC is hosting a fundraiser for Nevada candidate Sharron Angle in Washington Thursday night. “Everyone is coming together,” says the source. “We’re all on the same team at the end of the day.”
Before anyone becomes carried away by the beauty of it all, it should be said that the developments are not really a Kumbaya moment. GOP officials have been astounded by the amount of money — $1 million — that O’Donnell has raised in the hours since her surprise primary victory over Republican Rep. Mike Castle. As much as anything, it is O’Donnell’s fundraising bonanza that is warming hearts at the NRSC. “We have 45 days until the election,” the source said. “We need to be united.”
