A Northern Virginia high school was evacuated on Tuesday morning due to “an unidentified, strong odor.”

Patriot High School’s students were safe and waiting on buses as of 10:40 a.m., according to Prince William County Public Schools officials.

They could not identify the odor or whether it was toxic. The Nokesville high school was evacuated at 9:15 a.m.

Irene Cromer, a spokeswoman for the school system, said a cautionary final check is being done of the building, and it is unlikely that students will be sent home.
