Gas prices: Prices decrease again heading into the weekend

Gas prices in the country decreased again on Friday.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gasoline dropped to $3.559 on Friday, according to AAA. This was cheaper than Thursday’s price of $3.569 per gallon.

It marks the fourth straight day gas prices have dropped. The downward trend in prices started before Memorial Day weekend.

Friday’s prices also mark a decrease from this time last week, when the cost for a gallon of regular gas was $3.609. It is also a drop from a month ago, when regular gas cost $3.657 per gallon, and from over a year ago, when gas prices were $3.576. 

Mississippi is still the state with the cheapest gas prices in the nation, at $3.029 per gallon. This was a slight decrease compared to Thursday when gas prices were $3.035 per gallon. Both prices are cheaper than a week ago, however, when the average cost for a gallon of regular gas was $3.058. A month ago, a gallon of regular gas cost Mississippians $3.099.

California remains the state with the most expensive gas with a gallon of regular gas costing  $5.076 per gallon. This slightly decreased from Thursday’s price of $5.091 per gallon. It is also cheaper than a week ago when the average price was $5.138 for a gallon of regular gas. These prices are more expensive than a year ago when Californians paid $4.872 for a gallon of regular-grade gas.

Here are the gas prices for a gallon of regular-grade gas in and around Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in the nation’s capital continues to be more expensive than the average price in the country. On Friday, regular gas in Washington, D.C., cost $3.708 per gallon. This is a slight increase from Thursday’s price of $3.699 per gallon. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas was $3.701. 

Maryland

In Maryland, a gallon of regular-grade gas is $3.634. This is a decrease from Thursday’s gas costs of $3.663 per gallon. Thursday’s prices for regular gas in Maryland are also cheaper than what it was this time last week when gas cost $3.667 per gallon. A month ago, people in Maryland paid $3.714 per gallon for regular gas.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia on Friday is $3.438. This is a decrease from Thursday’s average price of $3.447 per gallon. Both prices were less expensive than a week ago when prices stood at $3.471 per gallon.

Delaware

The average price for a gallon of regular gas on Friday is $3.508 in Delaware. This was a decrease from Thursday’s pricing of $3.536 per gallon. It was also a decrease from last week at this time when a gallon of regular-grade gasoline averaged to be $3.521. A month ago, people in Delaware paid $3.655 per gallon for regular gas.
