Gas prices fall to start the week

Gas prices decreased again on Monday, with an average price of $3.445 per gallon for regular-grade gas. It’s the second straight week of falling gas prices in the country, a trend that started shortly before the Memorial Day weekend. 

Monday’s price was slightly cheaper than Sunday, when gas cost $3.449 per gallon. Gas is also cheaper than a week ago, when a gallon of regular-grade gasoline cost $3.532 per gallon. A month ago, gas averaged $3.636 per gallon. 

Four states now have an average gallon of regular-grade gasoline priced under $3 on Monday. Texas is the newcomer to the under $3 a gallon club, with an average price of $2.972 per gallon. Arkansas is the state with the next cheapest gas prices, with an average of $2.966 per gallon. Oklahoma is slightly cheaper, with an average price of $2.952. Mississippi remains the state with the cheapest gas prices, with an average price of $2.944 per gallon for regular-grade gasoline.

California remained the state with the most expensive gas in the country on Monday, at $4.928 per gallon. This is the fourth straight day the state’s average price for a gallon of regular gas has been under $5. A week ago, regular gas cost $5.044 per gallon. A month ago, it was $5.305 in the Golden State. 

Gas prices are less expensive than in June 2023, when gas costs $3.589 per gallon.

Here are the gas prices for a gallon of regular-grade gas in and around Washington, D.C., and a few other states.

Washington, D.C.

On Monday, regular gas costs $3.683 per gallon in the nation’s capital. In a bit of a shock, this is more expensive than gas was on Sunday, when prices stood at $3.677. A week ago, the price for a gallon of regular-grade gas was $3.709. A month ago, it was $3.738 per gallon. Monday’s gas price was more expensive than a year ago when a gallon cost $3.677.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia on Monday is $3.342. This is a decrease from yesterday’s average price of $3.349 per gallon. A month ago, regular-grade gas was $3.458 per gallon in Virginia. Gas prices remain more expensive in the state than last year when the cost of regular-grade gas was $3.303 per gallon.

Maryland

In Maryland, a gallon of regular-grade gas is $3.530 on Monday. This is a decrease from yesterday’s price of $3.535 per gallon. A week ago, gas cost $3.610 per gallon. A month ago, people in Maryland paid $3.594 per gallon for regular gas. Monday’s gas price in Maryland was more expensive than a year ago, when gas was $3.434 per gallon. 

Delaware

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware on Monday is $3.427. This is the same price as it was on Sunday. A week ago, people in Delaware paid $3.482 per gallon for regular gas, while a month ago, gas was $3.501 per gallon.

Pennsylvania

A gallon of regular-grade gas in Pennsylvania on Monday cost $3.672. This was a decrease from Sunday’s price of $3.678. A week ago, a gallon of regular gas was $3.729. A month ago, gas was $3.781.

New Jersey

On Monday, gas prices in New Jersey stood at $3.432 for a gallon of regular-grade gasoline, slightly cheaper than Sunday’s price of $3.435. A week ago, a gallon of regular cost $3.478. A month ago, it was $3.585.

New York

Gas prices in New York are higher than the national average. A gallon of regular gas in the Empire State will cost $3.621 on Monday. This was cheaper than yesterday’s price of $3.624. A week ago, regular gas cost $3.652 per gallon. A month ago, regular gas was $3.695 per gallon.
