America really is No. 1 — in immigrants.
A stunning new world population analysis by the Pew Research Center finds that the U.S. has the most foreign-born residents, about 46 million. That means that nearly one in six Americans was born in another country and migrated here legally or illegally.
An interactive map of the world’s population just posted by Pew’s Global Attitudes Project reveals that Russia has 11,050,000 residents who were born elsewhere.
Looked at another way, the United States has more illegal residents, 12 million, than all of Russia’s immigrants.
“In 2013, 45,790,000 people living in the United States were born in other countries,” says the map’s explanation of the U.S.
