Walker: Canadian border wall a possibility

Republican presidential candidate and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said Sunday he’d consider building a wall along the border with Canada.

Terrorists could easily enter the U.S. anywhere along the geographically remote 1,538 mile border the U.S. shares with Canada, an issue officials brought to Walker’s attention.

“They raised some very legitimate concerns, including some law enforcement folks that brought that up to me at one of our town hall meetings about a week and a half ago,” Walker said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “So that is a legitimate issue for us to look at.”

“I think we need to secure borders in general,” said the governor.

Walker also said Sunday that secure borders and enforcing current laws are the best solutions for illegal immigration, and he refused to endorse an end to birthright citizenship.

The governor has also called for a wall along the border with Mexico, framing the debate over border walls as one where “our intelligence community” needs to have the infrastructure “to protect us.”

“It only makes sense to me that, if part of what we’re trying do is protect ourselves … from risk out there, I think we should make sure we have a secure border,” he said.
