President Trump said Wednesday his administration would take action later today to help secure the border, a possible sign that he is about to announce a formal plan to use the U.S. National Guard toward that effort.
“Our Border Laws are very weak while those of Mexico & Canada are very strong,” Trump tweeted Wednesday. “Congress must change these Obama era, and other, laws NOW! The Democrats stand in our way – they want people to pour into our country unchecked….CRIME! We will be taking strong action today.”

The White House put out a statement Tuesday that said if Congress did not act to fund the border wall, Trump will send the National Guard to patrol the border between the U.S. and Mexico.
Officials were still discussing how the National Guard might be able to help secure the border.
“There are a number of ways the Department of Defense is already supporting the DHS border security mission,” Pentagon chief spokesperson Dana White said in a statement last night. “We are still in consultation with the White House about ways we can expand that support.”
