Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Pakistan Friday for a surprise visit — the first visit by an Indian prime minister in almost 12 years.
When he arrived at an airport in Lahore during his short layover, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif greeted him. Talks between the two leaders were expected to last two hours.
The two countries have fought three wars since 1947 and often spar over the Himalayan region of Kashmir. Relations between the two nuclear rivals have also been tense since the 2008 terror attack on Mumbai.
