Poll: Sanders cuts Clinton’s lead in half

In the past month Hillary Clinton has lost over half her national lead over Bernie Sanders.

The Vermont senator has gained popularity among Democrats following his landslide win in the New Hampshire primary and narrow loss in the Iowa caucus.

Clinton now leads Sanders 53-42, according to a NBC/ Wall Street journal poll released Thursday evening. Although the former secretary of state still holds a double-digit lead over the democratic socialist, just one month ago she led him by 25 points.

Sanders has been working to win over African American and Hispanic voters going into the South Carolina and Nevada primaries, but Clinton still has the advantage with minority voters 62-33. She also leads him among women (58-39), primary voters over age fifty (65-31) and self-identified Democrats (58-37).

Twenty-two percent of voters were most concerned about Clinton’s Wall Street ties and speaking fees, and her private e-mail server concerned 7% of respondents. Sixty-six percent said neither were a major concern.

Sanders continues to lead among voters under fifty (57-40), independents (61-33) and white men (54-41). But Democrats expressed concern about his lack of foreign polciy experience and said his policy proposals were too far out of the mainstream, both points Clinton hits regularly.

The Vermont senator leads Clinton in a Fox News poll also released Thursday.

The NBC/WSJ poll was conducted among 400 Democratic primary voters from February 14-16 with a margin or error of +/- 3.5 percent. Clinton and Sanders will appear in a town hall in Las Vegas at 9 p.m. ET.
