Blackburn predicts Cruz will regret not endorsing Trump

Sen. Ted Cruz will eventually regret his decision not to endorse Donald Trump for president, Rep. Marsha Blackburn predicted Thursday.

“I thought the situation with Sen. Cruz, to accept the invitation to speak and then not to endorse, I think was unfortunate and it did not serve him well,” the Tennessee Republican said at an Atlantic-hosted forum in Cleveland. “And I think as he lets time and space play its course, he will look back at some point in time and say, why did I choose to do that?”

Blackburn also questioned what Cruz might gain from refusing to follow in the stead of his GOP colleagues who ran against Trump in the primaries but have since endorsed the Republican presidential nominee. Cruz should be considering long-term ramifications, not just short term, she said.

“I’m not seeing much from this besides an immediate applause line,” Blackburn said.

Cruz was booed during the Republican convention Wednesday night, when it became clear that he would not back Trump during his address. Cruz and Trump traded harsh accusations during the primary season, before Cruz was forced to concede to Trump.
