Bin Laden saga making its way to silver screen

Superstar action director Kathryn Bigelow‘s Navy Seal Team 6 project — unofficially titled “Killing Bin Laden” — is set to hit theaters on Oct. 12, 2012 which is good news.  Considering the uncertainty surrounding hers and writer Mark Boal‘s film about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden – a project they’d been developing for some time — when the Bin Laden was killed. Now with the final act of the real-life saga complete, Boal rewrote the last part of the film to reflect the updated history, making the ending more “satisfying.”

Production is set to begin in late summer, but the release date seems a bit more strategic, as it mirrors the release format that landed The Social Network in theaters just in time to rake in acclaim for the Oscars last year, which Sony bolstered with a January re-release right before the awards. So could we see the same pattern this year?
