John McCain harshly criticized President Obama Sunday for his comments regarding Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that Obama was throwing a “tantrum.”
“The president should get over it,” the Arizona senator said on CNN. “Get over your temper tantrum, Mr. President.”
“The least of your problems is what Bibi Netanyahu said during an election campaign,” the Republican added.
McCain’s comments came after Obama said in an interview released Saturday that he would have to re-evaluate U.S. support for Israel at the United Nations following Netanyahu’s comments on the campaign trail. In the final days of the election, the Israeli prime minister ruled out the possibility of a Palestinian state in the current environment and warned voters that Arab Israelis were headed to the polls “in droves.”
The larger problem, McCain said, was the rise of the Islamic State throughout the region.
“Bibi’s rhetoric concerning an election campaign pales in comparison to the direct threat to the United States of America of ISIS,” McCain said, referring to the Islamic State.
The president’s priorities “are so screwed up it’s unbelievable,” he added.
