61 dead from airplane crash in Russia

A Fly Dubai commercial air flight 981 crashed while landing at a Russian airport Saturday, killing 55 passengers and six crew members on board, according to multiple sources.

The Boeing-737 plane missed the runway by a long-shot during the final moments of its descent into Rostov-on-Don airport.

“According to preliminary information, the Boeing-737 fell amid poor visibility conditions 50-100 meters [164-328 feet] left of the runway,” an Russian emergency personnel source said.

The plane had departed from Dubai earlier Saturday and was reported missing less than an hour before the crash.

Officials cited said four children were among the fatalities.

Airport authorities said the facility will be closed until 6:00 MSK.
