Christie likens Star-Ledger to ‘crazy ex-girlfriend’

The saga between Chris Christie and the Newark Star-Ledger took another turn Wednesday when the 2016 hopeful compared the newspaper to a “crazy ex-girlfriend” during a call with donors.

Christie made the comment a day after the Star-Ledger penned a scathing editorial Tuesday lambasting the New Hampshire Union Leader for its endorsement of the New Jersey governor, saying the Granite State paper didn’t know much about Christie’s tenure in Trenton.

According to CBS News, Christie dismissed the paper as “a liberal rag,” adding to donors “do yourselves a favor and cancel your Star Ledger subscription and restore your sanity.”

“I don’t know why you were reading it or why you care,” Christie said. “The Star-Ledger is like my crazy ex-girlfriend who broke with me and is now running around town saying I am an awful person.”

The remarks follow-up an editorial from Star-Ledger editorial page editor Tom Moran, who called up the editorial board at the Union Leader and came away believing that “the paper knows almost nothing about his record as governor.”

Christie is currently trying to make his mark in the Granite State, having visited the state more than every other GOP candidate thus far. However, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average, Christie currently sits seventh in New Hampshire with 5.3 percent.

The 2016 contender currently sits fourth in the Washington Examiner’s latest batch of power rankings.
