Rep. Ron Paul’s supporters have made fundraising for the candidate an art form. With their “money bomb” technique — bombing the Texas Republican’s website with donations on the same date — Paul’s campaign finds itself flush with cash. Last month, the campaign reported more than $4.5 million for the second fundraising quarter of 2011. The results showed at Saturday’s GOP straw poll in Iowa.
In 2007 Paul’s tent was farthest from the Hilton Coliseum. This year (with a $31,000 price tag) it was in a prime location, next to where voters walked upstairs to cast their ballots. The “Vote Ron Paul 2012 Restore America” tent hosted “Paul’s prosperity playground” for the tykes, including a “sliding dollar” — a 16-foot inflatable slide, a spy reports. Paul’s people served guests hot dogs and corn on the cob.
