Pedal to the metal
President Bush shunned his usual mountain-biking venues on Sunday, as his motorcade headed for new trail at Rosaryville State Park in Upper Marlboro, Md. … which may be the last time they go there, given the frayed nerves that resulted.
According to the broadcast pool report, the “motorcade sped up precautiously while turning from Pennsylvania Avenue onto Suitland Parkway as gunshots could be heard in the distance from a nearby [shooting] range.”
That’ll get the Secret Service’s attention.
Saturday’s bike ride at Fort Belvoir was a little less eventful. Not only were the gunshots kept to a minimum, but President Bush had some extra muscle at his side: Gen. David Petraeus, clad in black bike gear, rode with the president and Council of Economic Advisers chairman Edward Lazear. Petraeus was overheard imploring Lazear to do what he could to help the economy.
Speaking of Petraeus, the outgoing commander in Iraq was spotted dining at Hook in Georgetown on Thursday.
