Conservative radio talker Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday dubbed CNN the “Clinton News Network” for coming to Hillary Clinton’s defense against what is likely her main rival for the White House, Donald Trump.
In recent days, CNN and other news outlets have pushed back against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump’s rehashing of old controversies that have dogged the Clintons for decades, and many of which are based on unfounded accusations and innuendo.
Several times on air, CNN anchors have interrupted Trump surrogates who attempted to delve into sex scandals that involved former president Bill Clinton. In one instance, anchor Jake Tapper produced a three-minute segment rebutting claims Trump dredged up this week that the Clintons were involved in the cover-up of a murder of a former aide.
“Here’s the thing: If you don’t like Trump going back there, you can do all that,” Limbaugh said on his show. “But it does come across as pro-Clinton all over the place because there seems to be this need to defend, which does not happen for Republicans. When it comes to Republicans, the nature of the evidence is irrelevant. It’s always the seriousness of the charge.”
He said CNN decided to surreptitously “circle the wagons” for Clinton. “Which, folks, they can do it. I’m just pointing out that they are while they may want it to appear [like] something else.”
