Report: Biden to decide on 2016 bid in next week

The 2016 race on the Democratic side may be on the verge of getting a little more crowded.

According to a report, Vice President Joe Biden could be set to jump into the 2016 race within the next week and half. The report cites three people that are familiar with discussions within the Biden camp.

If he were to jump in the race in that time frame, Biden would likely not participate in the first Democratic debate on Oct. 13 in Las Vegas.

According to the CBS news report, sources say Biden will have reached a decision made by the second half of the month, adding that the former Delaware senator will need some time to ramp up a campaign for fundraising purposes. In addition, some states also have ballot deadlines beginning in early November.

A potential run would be the vice president’s third attempt at the White House — having run unsuccessfully in 1988 and 2008.

A Biden candidacy would change the landscape for the 2016 Democratic field, which is currently being fought by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Despite not being a declared candidate, Biden pulls in nearly 19 percent support — which trails Clinton’s 41.5 percent and Sanders’ 25.4 percent support, according to the RealClearPolitics national average.
