“She looks so beautiful,” a man at a Republican National Convention rally in Arlington gushed. No, it wasn’t Sarah Palin, the “hot governor from a cold state,” he was talking about, but John McCain’s mother, Roberta. Dressed in a bright red dress and black, patent-leather Chanel flats, Mrs. McCain had everyone at McCain’s headquarters abuzz.
“She’s so fabulous,” harked one woman. “She’s a doll,” another said, as she walked away smiling and looking down at a digital camera and her new photo with Roberta. A photo was what everyone wanted, crowding around her for their chance to pose following the rally, where former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge also spoke. But it wasn’t only her picture people wanted, as we overheard a few people ask themselves, “What’s her secret?” for looking so good.
