Well, you know this stings. Former Washington Post reporter Jose Antonio Vargas tried to get his old employer to run his story about being an illegal immigrant, but as the Huffington Post reports, WaPo didn’t want it. So Vargas, as part of his push to get Congress to pass the Dream Act, took his tale to the New York Times Magazine and shared his story in a revealing piece entitled “Outlaw.”

ABC News picked up the story and nabbed an on-camera interview with Vargas. In a preview clip of the interview, Vargas says that despite the possible consequences of sharing his story, he couldn’t carry the secret with him any longer. “In my heart, I am an American,” he says.

You can catch the full interview Thursday on “World News with Diane Sawyer” and again on “Nightline.” It will air again Friday on “Good Morning America.”
