Fox News confirmed on Wednesday that the final debate of the Republican presidential primary has been canceled, after both Donald Trump and John Kasich said they wouldn’t attend.
A statement released by Fox said due to these cancellations, it had no choice but to scrap the event.
“Ted Cruz has expressed a willingness to debate Trump or Kasich — or both. But obviously there needs to be more than one participant,” the statement said. “So the Salt Lake City debate is cancelled.”
The cancellation was first reported by Fox 13 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
A representative for Fox News did not return a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
Trump said in an interview Wednesday morning on Fox that he would be sitting the debate out, as he did once previously.
“We’ve had enough debates. … How many times can the same people ask you the same question?” Trump said. He said that instead, he will be delivering a speech at a conference hosted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
