Whether you rolled Easter eggs in the scorching sun, did some yoga on the South Lawn, danced to music or dribbled and dunked on the basketball court, almost everyone who attended the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday appropriately managed to break a sweat. Which is exactly what First Lady Michelle Obama intended. “The theme is ‘Get Up and Go’ because, as you know, I’m a big proponent of getting up and going, making sure we’re moving and eating healthy,” the “first hostess” enthusiastically told her guests Monday morning. Singer Colbie Caillat sang the national anthem, and, after a brief greeting from President Obama and the first lady, the egg-citement ensued.
On the South Lawn, POTUS (with whistle in hand) asked the pint-sized participants how they felt about their form. “Do you feel good about it?” he smiled. Michelle Obama cheered the children along and gave one little girl a hug while POTUS passed around high-fives to the finishers. He even offered some encouragement to one little lady who was clearly having a difficult time spooning her egg across the finish line. After the race, the Obamas shook hands and smiled for pictures on the lawn.

At the story time stage, Malia and Sasha took turns reading “Where the Wild Things Are” and their parents followed with “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.” Visitors enjoyed live musical performances by Willow Smith (Will Smith’s daughter), Greyson Chance and Mindless Behavior and story time with actresses Geena Davis and Kelly Ripa, Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi and “Top Chef” contestant Carla Hall. A record 30,000 people were expected to attend Monday’s event.
