A 50,000-volt cocktail party
So we know how college student Andrew Meyer felt about being on the business end of a Taser last year at a speech by John Kerry. But what did Taser International think of the publicity generated by his now-famous line, “Don’t tase me, bro!”?
We had to ask, as the company opened its downtown D.C. office on Tuesday. “When a phrase that involves your product is the top phrase of 2007, I have to consider that a net gain,” said Peter Holran, the company’s VP for public relations and government affairs.
Uniformed local law enforcement officers mingled with the usual suited and tied D.C. types at the event, although company representatives wore black suits, shirts and ties, all the better to project that commando image. A mariachi band played and southwestern food was served (the company is based in Arizona) as an employee showed off the company’s wares, including a new leopard-print model designed for civilian use.
Holran said the new office will coordinate government affairs work at all levels and work on issues such as export controls and military procurement.
