A lesson for Congressman Lee

Does Rep. Chris Lee represent the exception or the norm? The Gawker Web site reported on Wednesday that the married GOP rep sent a picture of his shirtless bod along with a few flirtatious e-mails to a single, 34-year-old, D.C.-area woman who had posted an ad under the Women Seeking Men section of Craigslist. Now the ripped New York representative has resigned his post. While the news comes as a shock to some, Noel Biderman, president of AshleyMadison.com, a Web site for people seeking affairs, says this is a typical tale for folks in this town.

“A city like Washington, D.C., attracts a personality type who has taken multiple risks on their way to the top and so taking a risk within their personal life, since they feel they are made of Teflon, is a natural extension,” he said. “Simply put, the more successful you are, the more prone to cheating you are.”

We contacted Lee’s office to get his take, but no comment was forthcoming.

Biderman added that if Lee had protected his privacy, he could have prevented damaging his reputation, career and family.

“The country will lose a talented politician over digital lipstick on the collar.”

Perhaps he should have kept his shirt on. …
