With the debut of “Piers Morgan Tonight” only weeks away, the new CNN host already has his eyes on the prize. For one of the first shows, he’s hoping to book President Obama.
“I was thinking we should start at the top and move down,” the Brit told Yeas & Nays. “He’s the most powerful man in the world, one of the most charismatic, it’s a fascinating time for him and for America — so I’d love to sit down with him.”

Morgan said he was “hammering at the White House door” for an interview, and didn’t miss the opportunity to discuss it with senior presidential adviser David Axelrod when they bumped into each other over the weekend.
“I’ve hammered him as well,” Morgan confessed.
Morgan and Axelrod both attended a party for another world leader Saturday night, a book party for former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Brown recently released “Beyond the Crash: Overcoming the First Crisis of Globalisation” and is doing a leg of his book tour in the United States. Morgan said he’s a big fan.
“I’m very proud, I’ve known Gordon 15 years and his wife even longer, and they are people I consider my friends. It was thrilling to see him out here, because he’s written an amazing book,” Morgan said. “I think that he will get, in time, the credit he deserves for effectively saving the world from going into a depression.”
The incoming CNN host got a shout-out from the podium from Brown as well. The party, hosted by Tammy Haddad, Ted Greenberg, Connie Milstein and J.C. de La Haye St. Hilaire, attracted a broad mix of Washington. We spotted Terry McAuliffe, the White House’s Bill Burton, Hilary Rosen, British Ambassador to the United States Sir Nigel Elton Sheinwald, former Motion Picture Association of America head Dan Glickman, Arianna Huffington and NBC’s White House Correspondent Savannah Guthrie.
