The Washington Kastles are ready to kick off the season. Their new stadium at the Wharf on Water Street in Southwest will be christened when Venus Williams faces off against the Kansas City Explorers on Tuesday night. As expected, Coach Murphy Jensen told Yeas & Nays he’s more than excited about this new season. “I’m overjoyed. I’m jumping out of my jock strap.”

The return of the Williams sisters has a lot to do with the always amusing coach’s enthusiasm.

“We’ve got Serena back and she’s in great playing shape, coming off a decent Wimbeldon — probably not as good as she would have liked, but we have a great team back. With our quarterback Leander Paes, Rennae Stubbs, and Bobby Reynolds [who was the rookie of the year last year] we have the core back,” he explained. There’s a new addition to the team this year — Arina Rodionova — and Jensen says she’s the one to watch. “She’s the young, hot, Russian prospect that everyone is looking at and she’s the most sought-after player in the draft.”

It’s not just the players that make the Kastles games so much fun, it’s the experience, he added.

“It’s the best product you are going to get in Washington, D.C. as far as the atmosphere, the energy, the stadium court, the excitement of the scoring system and the format of World Team Tennis,” Jensen said.

He has been with the team from the very beginning and says he wouldn’t be coaching any other team in the league because he believes the Kastles are America’s team. “It’s like summer camp for me. I’m living the dream.” Jensen said.
