House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, is resigning from his post, and Marco Rubio seems ready for the Ohio Republican to move along.
During his speech at the Values Voter Summit Friday, Rubio offered no kind words for Boehner, who is set to depart Congress on Oct. 30, telling a crowd of conservative activists that it is finally time to move on from a Boehner-led Republican Congress.
Rubio’s remarks came after he announced to the crowd that Boehner had announced his plan to leave his post, after which the attendees roared and gave a 30-second standing ovation.
“I’m not here to bash anyone, but the time has come to turn the page,” Rubio said, repeating the line again. “It is time to turn the page and allow a new generation of leaders.”
The 2016 hopeful made the comments after he spoke critically about how the Republican majority in Congress and how they have been unable to stop the U.S. from “sliding in the wrong direction.”
