Today” co-host Hoda Kotb opened up about her own experiences with breast cancer in her book “Hoda: How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer, and Kathie Lee,” but she about flipped when she heard that her NBC gal pal Andrea Mitchell was diagnosed with the disease. “She said to me, ‘I was going to call you, but I didn’t want to bother you,’ ” Kotb told Yeas & Nays. “Like, bother me? Are you kidding me? I am crazy about her. There is no one who copes better with life than Andrea Mitchell. … She’s the kindest, most humble person you’ll ever meet in your life,” Kotb gushed at the National Book Festival on Saturday.

Kotb’s mother works at the Library of Congress, which sponsored the festival, and Kotb used to work there as a kid, so she was psyched to be there. “So I’m into the whole groove of it,” she said, pointing out how she had just run into actress Julianne Moore and author Toni Morrison. “Look, I just saw Toni Morrison, I’m like a stalker, it’s official,” she laughed.

As for Kotb and Mitchell, the two are slated to appear at the Susan G. Komen Honoring the Promise gala in late October at the Kennedy Center. “I’m crazy about her, any minute I can spend with her I’ll take,” Kotb said.
