The Republican Senator from Kentucky made his presidential aspirations official Tuesday morning on his website.
“I am running for president to return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government,” he said in a post on www.randpaul.com. He released a teaser video to his announcement Sunday night with the same message.
Paul is expected to formally launch his 2016 presidential bid at a rally Tuesday afternoon at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville. He is also expected to seek re-election to his Senate seat in 2016.
Paul joins Texas Sen. Ted Cruz as the other Republican candidate to officially announce his White House intentions. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is expected to announce next week.
