Reps. Daniel Webster and Richard Nugent, both of Florida, were cut from the House Rules Committee roster Tuesday, hours after voting against re-electing Boehner to a third term as speaker.
The move incited anger among conservatives, even those who voted for Boehner.
In a closed-door meeting Wednesday morning, Boehner told his GOP rank and file that no final decision has been made about whether Webster and Nugent will be permanently removed from the powerful committee. “We are going to have a family conversation about bringing our team together,” Boehner said. “And I expect those conversations in the coming days will continue and we’ll come to a decision about moving forward.”
Webster was one of three lawmakers to run against Boehner.
