D.C. native and E! News co-host Giuliana Rancic broke the unfortunate news that she has breast cancer on Monday morning during a live interview with Ann Curry on NBC’s “Today” show. The 36-year-old University of Maryland and American University alumus told Curry that she will have surgery later this week, then undergo radiation to get rid of the cancer, which was discovered during a mammogram. Rancic, who has been very public about her infertility problems, was ordered to get a mammogram by her doctor after her third invitro fertilization attempt. She and husband Bill will put plans for a baby on hold for now.

“I truly believe that God was looking out for me,” Rancic said. “I’m not going to give up. I want that baby. That baby will have saved my life.”
