Political staffers open skin care store

Usually for those who work in politics, it’s politics that’s the passion. But that’s not necessarily the case for Brian Thomas, chief of staff to Rep. Kenny Marchant, R-Texas. Thomas and his wife Amy Little Thomas, who works for the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, have found a new passion in skin care. They recently opened Nectar Skin Bar in Georgetown, which carries 35 brands of skin care products and offers an array of services from tanning to waxing to facials. “Our goal is not to be a Sephora or a Blue Mercury, we really want to fill a gap in the beauty industry,” Brian Thomas told Yeas & Nays at a party introducing the store Tuesday night.

A year ago, Thomas and his wife bought the nearby Ipsa salon and then turned to skin. Thomas started working on the Hill part time to make the dream a reality, but the transition, he says, hasn’t been that tough. “It’s the same,” Thomas said, explaining that the worst thing you can do in politics is to not take care of your constituents. “It’s customer service.”

Nectar Skin Bar will hold an open house Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
