Donald Trump won the Northern Mariana Island caucus vote on Monday, and earned another nine delegates in the race towards the Republican nomination.
A small percentage of the island’s 53,000 residents participated in the GOP caucus, nearly 7,500 miles from the U.S. mainland. A few days earlier, Democrats on the Island helped Hillary Clinton gain a few more delegates.
Although the U.S. territory primarily serves as a vacation spot for nearby Chinese tourists, Trump managed to send a representative to the Island. Ted Cruz also reportedly attempted to send a representative there, but he only made it as far as Guam before being sidelined by a typhoon.
Trump’s Northern Mariana win is the first of what is likely to be a day of primary victories. The business mogul is expected to win the North Carolina, Missouri and Illinois primaries with close contests in both Florida and Ohio. So far, Trump has won 42 percent of the allotted delegates.
