Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs Tammy Duckworth is leaving her post at the Department of Veterans Affairs, but where she plans to go is not certain. Some are speculating she could go back to Illinois to make another run for Congress. The decorated Iraq War veteran, who lost both legs and the use of an arm in 2004 when the Black Hawk helicopter she was co-piloting was hit by a grenade, came close to capturing the 6th District seat for the Democrats in 2006 but was beat out by Republican Rep. Peter Roskam.
Last October, at a private screening of the HBO documentary “Wartorn: 1861-2010,” the Purple Heart recipient dodged questions from reporters when asked if she would consider a run for Congress again and huffed, “This is not the time or the place to ask” that question.
