After being relatively absent on the campaign trail, first lady Michelle Obama will head to Iowa for Bruce Braley this week.
The first lady will join the Democratic Senate candidate at a rally at Drake University Friday afternoon, according to the Des Moines Register.
“I’m thrilled to be joined by the First Lady here in Des Moines and to have the opportunity to speak to Iowans about the importance of voting early by mail or in person,” Braley said in a prepared statement.
While President Obama has not been as visible on the campaign trail this season due to his unpopularity in many parts of the country, some Democrats have wondered why Michelle, who remains more popular, has not campaigned as much.
A RealClearPolitics average of polls shows Ernst leading Braley by just 1.9 points.
