Clinton: Internet for all U.S. households by 2020

Hillary Clinton laid out the goal Sunday of having internet access in all American households, by the end of her first term as president.

“By 2020, I want 100 percent of American households to have access to quality, affordable high-speed internet, no matter where they live,” Clinton said to 1100 attendees at the New Hampshire Jefferson-Jackson dinner.

Clinton’s initiative puts her on the same page as Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, only Zuckerberg and Gates seek to accomplish that goal for the whole planet.

Zuckerberg runs the “Connect the World” campaign, which states in its “Declaration,” “When people have access to the tools and knowledge of the internet, they have access to opportunities that make life better for all of us.”

Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales and music star Bono are also supporters of the initiative.

Bill Gates has been a major donor to the now-controversial Clinton Foundation in the past. Zuckerberg has also been politically active, a strong public supporter of comprehensive immigration reform. Neither has formally endorsed Clinton, however.
