Thanksgiving is more than just turkey. For some foodies it means oysters. For others, it’s a time to eat venison. President Obama served Honey Baked ham at his first White House Thanksgiving. (Alongside the turkey, of course). Chef Michel Richard learned of the holiday when he moved to the States. “We don’t have Thanksgiving in France so I did not grow up with this tradition, but it has become my favorite day of the year. … I love to start to eat at 4 o’clock in the afternoon,” Richard said. “Oh, and it has my favorite thing, lots of food. I love food.”

Along with Richard, Yeas & Nays asked D.C.’s hottest chefs how they celebrate Thursday’s holiday. Here are their traditions, tips and recipes.
