D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee said that despite some rumors to the contrary, she doesn’t expect to be offered an appointment in an Obama or McCain administration.
Responding to a question at a National Press Club luncheon on Monday, Rhee said, “I don’t think I’m going to be asked to move anywhere. I’ve given some constructive criticism to both presidential campaigns.”
Her star status notwithstanding, she also added that she believes longevity is important in a position like hers, and that she and Mayor Fenty have discussed the possibility of her working alongside him for two terms.
During the Q&A, Rhee was also subject to a couple tough questions on … grammar and Cheetos. First, she was asked if she believes that good grammar is still important in an age of students making up their own shorthand for use in text messaging in emailing. Although she argued that it was, she disclosed that she had received an email from New York Schools Chancellor Joel Klein earlier that day that read, “Can u call me?”
And finally, she was asked if she considers herself a role model for students, particularly in light of her penchant for Cheetos. “Eating Cheetos for lunch is not something I would recommend,” she answered, “but in a pinch, it will get you through the lunch hour.”
