U.S. Capitol Police were investigating two suspicious packages near the Capitol Visitor Center early Tuesday morning.
According to police, the north screening facility of the CVC was closed briefly, while the south facility remained open. There is no direct impact to the U.S. Capitol Building itself, police said.
“U.S. Capitol Police cleared the incident on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol Building,” near the CVC, Capitol police said shortly after the two unattended packages were found, adding, “All test results were negative. The area has reopened.”

“We are also investigating a second unattended package on the North Side Plaza of the Jefferson Building,” an emailed statement read.
A witness told Reuters a bomb squad was on the scene.
Tuesday’s news comes a day after the Capitol was on lockdown after a man was shot and wounded by police after he pointed what appeared to be a weapon at officers in the CVC.
